DISGRACED FORMER lawyer Andrew Fraser released an autobiography last week, Court in the Middle, in which he details how his cocaine addiction saw him go from a leading criminal lawyer to a prison inmate.

Fraser was jailed for seven years in 2001 after pleading guilty to helping import over 5 kilograms of cocaine. The Victorian lawyer was juggling a $1,000 a day cocaine habit at the time.

In his book, Fraser condemns the Law Institute of Victoria for failing to offer him any support, unlike the Australian Medical Association which offers assistance and treatment to its members with drug addictions.

According to Peter Faris QC, rumours have persisted at the Bar that the Fraser tapes — intercepted telephone recordings of conversations that were used to convict Fraser - named other senior lawyers who were also using cocaine at the time.

Fraser has also alleged last week that a judge had used drugs.
