Lavan Legal has become the second law firm in a fortnight to win a major environmental award.

The West Australian firm took out the CitySwitch WA Signatory of the Year Award at an event in Perth on Tuesday (29 November).

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi announced the winner when tabling the CitySwitch Progress Report. She said that Lavan Legal won the award for its desire to become a carbon neutral firm, and cited projects the firm has recently undertaken, such as the installation of after-hours lighting sensors and the replacement of PCs and LCD monitors with "thin" client machines and LED monitors.

Lavan Legal was also praised for forming a "Green Team" to change firm policy, raise staff awareness and increase participation.

Lavan Legal's award comes shortly after Norton Rose was awarded the CitySwitch NSW Signatory of the Year Award by Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore for offices over 2000 square metres on 15 November.

The CitySwitch scheme started in NSW in 2006, but is now a national scheme with over 120 signatories.

A host of law firms have signed on, including Hunt & Hunt, Allens Arthur Robinson, Blake Dawson and Gadens.
