A legal professional body has set out to promote sustainable practices in law firms by asking them to input their consumption of paper, electricity, waste and business travel, in an online portal.
The move is a bid by the Australian Legal Sector Alliance (AusLSA), a body that provides tools to law firms to reduce their environmental impact, to make annual reporting more efficient, as well as advise firms on how to reduce their environmental impact.
AusLSA has partnered up with Greenstone Carbon Management, to provide the portal, following a similar release in England and Wales.
Seventy law firms and legal practices across England & Wales now use the online portal to measure their environmental impact, since Greenstone’s partnership with the LSA was announced in September last year.
AusLSA said reporting tool has improved transparency, consistency and comparability of carbon emissions in the legal sector, making it easier for firms to track, monitor and benchmark their carbon emissions performance.
The tool, powered by Greenstone’s solution Acco2unt, enables firms to process environmental data as part of their annual reporting process.
