FREEHILLS has won the CFO Magazine’s Corporate Legal Services Firm of the Year Award for 2006.
The Award was presented last week to Freehills’ chief executive officer, Gavin Bell, and chief financial officer, Janet Young. Accepting the honour on behalf of the firm, Bell said the recognition was something that all Freehills staff should be proud of.
“The 2005/06 financial year has been a very busy, important and exciting one for Freehills,” he said.
“We have achieved significant growth in a mature market; our achievements have been further reflected by our recent invitation to 14 outstanding lawyers to join the Freehills partnership, the largest number of partners the firm has ever appointed at one time.”
Bell said that he was encouraged by the success of numerous major client-focused projects that were undertaken during the period, including the launch of the firm’s ‘commerciality program’ and the implementation of a leading edge document redesign initiative to ensure all communication with clients is clear, actionable and relevant.
Deals that contributed to Freehills’ success include the initial public offering of Goodman Fielder; a hybrid debt/equity issue of Orica step-up preference securities, and a private equity deal concerning AUSTAR.
“Our growth signals the true vibrancy of the firm and the success we are enjoying with our clients and people,” Bell said.
The firm also recently launched a new set of values and a guiding vision for the firm, which was completed in consultation with staff.
“We have put considerable effort into uncovering and understanding what both our clients and people want so we can far exceed their needs and expectations. We believe we are succeeding at this, and are focused on continuing to deliver an exceptional experience for all,” Bell said.
