Julia Gillard, Australia’s first female prime minister, was announced as the moderator for the high profile event last week.

When Ms Gillard’s role in the talking series was confirmed, the former Labor PM said that she relished the opportunity to be involved.

“Australians have followed Secretary Clinton’s career with great interest and I believe audiences will be hungry to hear her take on contemporary world events as well as her reflections on her fascinating, and sometimes frustrating, life experiences,” she said.

Ms Gillard, who has met with Hillary Clinton a number of times, described the former secretary of state as a “formidable, admirable and inspiring woman”.

During the events, Secretary Clinton will share the lessons she has learnt along the way give an insight into the challenges facing women in politics. She will also consider what it means to be strong female in the public eye.

Karen Beattie, managing director of The Growth Faculty - which organised Ms Clinton’s visit to Australia - said that the event had broad appeal to many people.

“The unique combination of Secretary Clinton’s personal experience and global perspective is one that many Australians will find fascinating.

“Audiences can expect her candid insights and learnings to resonate with both their professional and personal lives,” she said.

Ms Beattie added that Julia Gillard was the ideal person to moderate the high profile in-conversation events in Australia.

“With passions that span leadership, policy and a desire to drive change, Ms Gillard will bring the right mix of knowledge, enthusiasm and insight required to host such an esteemed speaker,” she said.
