Malcolm Wood has been promoted to special counsel and will be based in Sydney.

Mr Wood specialises in large, high-value litigation matters and recently extended his practice to incorporate corporate and commercial services, acting on transactions involving trade sales, mergers and acquisitions and public companies, drafting advices on regulatory matters.

In addition to quickly mastering his corporate skills and expanding the client base, Mr Wood continues to mentor juniors both within and beyond the Sydney office.

James Duffy has been elevated to special counsel in Perth and has been recognised for his excellent technical skills and superior client management.

He runs the Perth EPL practice with leading national workplace principal Joel Zyngier, while managing a diverse case load incorporating professional indemnity, management liability, commercial litigation and general liability claims, including coverage.

He recently completed a successful secondment with a major insurer in Sydney and Perth.

Gilchrist Connell has also promoted two new associates with Kaye Lai in Adelaide and Carolyn Ledinh in Sydney.

The firm said Mr Lai’s work ethic, ability and enthusiasm have been exceptional and she is rapidly building a specialty in associations liability claims. Ms Lai is a valuable and keen contributor to client presentations and GC articles and publications.

Ms Ledinh has quickly created an impact, working across all areas of the corporate practice at a high skill level.

The firm said she is the first port of call for a number of clients, particularly in transactional and regulatory matters. Ms Ledinh regularly produces articles and engages actively in business development activities.
