Deal: Reko Rennie has been commissioned for a series of artworks by Heineken® 0.0 for the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022. The first work to be unveiled is a bespoke racing-style helmet, the firm said, which has been unveiled by eight-time F1® Grand Prix winner and McLaren F1® racing driver Daniel Ricciardo.
Area: Arts law
Value: N/A
Key players: Guest Work Agency director Alana Kushnir undertook the matter.
Deal significance: Speaking about the commission, Ms Kushnir said: “This has been a really exciting collaboration for such an iconic artist and important event for Melbourne. We can’t wait to see Reko’s vibrant works across the city.”
Mr Rennie, speaking about the custom artwork created for the helmet, said: “My home-town of Melbourne was my inspiration for the artwork featured on the helmet. The use of blue and green honours Birrarung (the Yarra River), which holds enormous cultural significance to the original inhabitants and owners of Naarm (Melbourne).
“The eye-catching colours result in an urban camouflage pattern that celebrates my Aboriginal culture and identity.”
The autographed helmet will be auctioned off, with proceeds being donated to Australian Red Cross’ Queensland and NSW Floods Appeal.
