NSW-based firm Coutts Lawyers & Conveyancers has elevated one of its senior lawyers to partner, with the firm attributing the advancement to her ability to “think outside the box”.
Coutts Lawyers & Conveyancers has promoted Melissa Care (pictured) to partner, effective 1 July 2025, a decision the firm said reflects its ongoing growth and continued expansion across South West Sydney and the Illawarra regions.
Melissa joined the NSW-based firm in early 2022 as a senior associate and quickly rose through the ranks, earning an appointment as head of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution department just 10 months later.
In a statement, the firm expressed that Melissa possesses “extensive experience” within civil litigation, commercial disputes, building and construction matters, employment law, and insolvency.
Managing partner Adriana Care said Melissa’s promotion reflects the firm’s commitment to advancing individuals based on merit and character, rather than time served.
“We don’t promote people based on how long they have been at Coutts, but rather, we look at the client outcomes and team contribution they have delivered,” Adriana Care said.
“Melissa really inspired me with her capacity to think outside the box, dissect difficult cases and formulate simple strategies for very complex matters.”
Adriana Care also spoke to how inspiring it has been to watch Melissa in practice, praising both her legal acumen and the leadership role she has embraced in mentoring junior lawyers within the firm.
“Melissa’s talent to think laterally, navigate challenging cases, and remain fiercely committed to justice is genuinely inspiring,” Adriana Care noted.
“Her values align seamlessly with ours, and her leadership contribution to the team, both across our South West Sydney and Illawarra offices, is invaluable for developing the next generation of lawyers, particularly young women entering the profession.”
Speaking on her promotion, Melissa shared how holding this title presents an opportunity to influence the firm’s future direction and maintain a focus on effective client outcomes.
“Joining the Coutts partnership is more than a title – it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of this firm and continue delivering outstanding outcomes for our clients,” Melissa said.
“Coutts is truly setting a new standard in the industry, especially around flexible working and empowering women in business. I’m incredibly proud to be part of that.”
