Specialist family law firm Watts McCray has marked 40 years in practice, a milestone one of its directors described as a tribute to “the people who have shaped this firm” over the decades.
Watts McCray has reached a significant milestone, marking 40 years of practice and cementing its place as a longstanding presence in Australia’s family law sector.
Founded in 1986 as a local Bankstown practice by Ledlin Watts, the firm underwent a period of transformation following the arrival of Greg McCray, evolving into what it now describes as a “powerhouse” in Australian family law.
Still operating from its long-term home in North Parramatta, Watts McCray revealed that it now has six more offices across Greater Sydney, including Sydney, northern beaches, Illawarra, Crows Nest, the eastern suburbs, and Hornsby.
Over the decades, Watts McCray has established a reputation as a proving ground for legal talent, with a significant number of alumni appointed to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
These include Division 1 Justices Watts, Benjamin, Tyson, Altobelli, and Christie, as well as Division 2 Judges Murdoch and Harland.
Reflecting on the firm’s longevity, CEO Chris McFadden said its continued relevance could be attributed to a consistent focus on integrity and client care, alongside the contribution of practitioners who have shaped the firm across generations.
“Built on a foundation of integrity, and genuine care for clients, Watts McCray Lawyers has grown into one of Australia’s most respected family law firms thanks to the generations of exceptional practitioners that have been a part of its history,” McFadden said.
“Over four decades, the firm has supported countless individuals and families through complex and deeply personal legal matters, while continuing to evolve alongside Australia’s family law landscape.
“We are thankful that our team continues to bring legal excellence and innovation to the practice of family law today so that we can build on our reputation of care and commitment to obtaining the best outcomes for our clients.”
Justin Dowd, a director at Watts McCray, expressed how reaching this significant milestone is a testament to the “people who have shaped this firm” over the years.
He said: “From our early days to our current national standing, our focus has always remained the same: providing genuine care and expert advocacy for our clients.”
