Australian mid-tier firm HopgoodGanim Lawyers has appointed the former chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Clayton Utz, who spent 13 years leading the global law firm.
Graeme Johnson (pictured) has joined HopgoodGanim Lawyers as chief operating officer and chief financial officer, officially stepping into the leadership role last week (23 March).
In this role, Johnson will oversee the firm’s operational, financial, and strategic functions, bringing a wealth of experience to guide its next phase of growth.
Before joining HopgoodGanim, Johnson spent more than 13 years in the same role at global law firm Clayton Utz, where he developed “deep operational insight” and a proven record of leadership.
The Australian mid-tier firm shared that his appointment comes at a “pivot” moment, as it continues to focus on reinforcing its “leadership capability to support sustainable, long-term growth and a consistently high-performing practice”.
Johnson’s professional background is further strengthened by his senior commercial and management experience, including chief financial officer roles at Oaks Hotels & Resorts and Macquarie Airports.
Luke Mountford, managing partner at HopgoodGanim, described Johnson's appointment as “a significant step forward” as the firm strengthens its leadership with deep legal expertise and commercial capability to drive continued growth.
“This is a significant step forward for HopgoodGanim,” Mountford stated.
“As the firm continues to grow and evolve, it was critical for us to strengthen our executive leadership with someone who brings both deep legal sector experience and sophisticated commercial capability.
“Graeme’s appointment reflects our commitment to building a leadership team that can support the firm at the highest level.”
He also highlighted how Johnson’s “rare” combination of skills will be central to helping the firm achieve its ambition of operating as a consistently high-performing practice.
“Graeme brings a rare combination of professional services expertise and large-scale commercial leadership,” Mountford noted.
“His experience will help sharpen our operational discipline, strengthen financial performance and support our partners and teams to perform at their best as the firm continues its next phase of growth.”
