Boutique advisory firm Aldermane has promoted one to principal and two to special counsel.
Reflecting its investment in the defence and broader Commonwealth sectors, Aldermane has elevated Brian Donn Familar to principal, and Derek Smith and Sarah Strachan to special counsel.
Familar, who specialises in complex and high-risk procurement, is the first lawyer to progress internally to principal.
He said the opportunity to work across disciplines was central to his development, particularly within defence and national security, where legal, commercial, and operational considerations often intersect.
Smith and Strachan similarly played important roles in supporting clients across commercial, public sector, and regulatory matters.
The promotions reflect the calibre of the firm’s people and the increasing demand from clients for expertise in the senior practitioners who assist them, founder and managing partner Rory Alexander said.
“Clients increasingly expect practitioners who can move comfortably across legal, commercial, and strategic issues,” Alexander said.
“These promotions reflect the strength of the team we’re building and the trust Brian, Derek, and Sarah have earned with clients and colleagues.”
The promotions come as Aldermane continues to expand its national presence across defence, government, and the broader public sector work.
