National law firm Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers has moved to expand its commercial property, retail leasing, commercial litigation and mediation practices, by bringing on board the full team from a boutique practice.
Anthony Herro and his team from Herro Solicitors have joined Caroll & O’Dea Lawyers as part of an acquisition that will ultimately see Herro Solicitors' operations cease.
Herro, whom the national firm called one of Australia’s leading retail and commercial leasing lawyers, will bring his team from Herro Solicitors, after having spent over 25 years as principal solicitor.
Alongside Herro, who will become a partner, four fellow employees will also join the merger: Caitlin Cornish will be joining as a lawyer, along with three law clerks, Caitlin Fitzpatrick, Marissa Sukkar, and Isadora Wang (graduate).
Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers’ general manager, John Willey, spoke about having someone of Herro’s experience join the firm's ranks: “This is a very exciting announcement for Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers, and we are very pleased to have someone of the calibre of Anthony Herro joining the firm,” he said.
The firm's managing partner, Hanaan Indari, added: “Anthony has more than 30 years’ experience acting for tenants and landlords in all aspects of commercial and retail leasing, throughout the entire retail and commercial leasing life cycle, including complex negotiations through to resolving lease disputes when they arise between landlords and tenants.
“He is a recognised leader in the field, advising the NSW government on amendments to the Retail Leases Act and regularly making submissions on retail leasing and related matters to public inquiries," she said.
“Anthony is also a highly skilled mediator and is committed to assisting clients and related parties resolve disputes early, ensuring better outcomes, including avoiding complex litigation."
“He brings a unique perspective to legal practice, having also worked in retail business (men’s fashion), which allows him to better understand the day-to-day issues faced by tenants and landlords," Indari said.
Regarding the integration and office details, Indari noted: “Anthony and the team from Herro Solicitors will be joining Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers based in our Elizabeth Street, Sydney offices, where they will work alongside a growing commercial and property law practice with Matthew Rafferty (partner), Patricia Monemvasitis (partner) and David Crane (senior legal counsel)."
