Expanding its national footprint, mid-tier commercial law firm WRP Legal has strengthened its Sydney presence to support growing client demand across one of Australia’s largest legal markets.

The Sydney office is led by director Stephen Annicchiarico, who is a multiple Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year finalist, and financial services lawyer of the year winner at the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 in 2023.

The office has experienced strong success since opening, continuing to provide the commercial, responsive, and client-focused service for which WRP Legal is known for.

To bolster this momentum, WRP Legal recently appointed Tanja Maley as a director in Sydney, strengthening its M&A and corporate advisory capabilities to deliver strategic guidance to public and private entities both domestically and globally.

This comes after the firm promoted two associate directors and one senior associate in July, following the elevation of four lawyers in February.

Speaking on the growth of the Sydney office, co-founding director Garry Winter recognised the growing client demand and alignment with WRP Legal's strategic commitment to expanding its national presence.

“Opening our Sydney office was a significant milestone for WRP Legal, and we have been delighted by the support and confidence shown by our clients, referrers and the broader business community," Winter said.

Speaking to Lawyers Weekly, Annicchiarico, who also leads WRP Legal's intellectual property & technology practice, expressed his short- and long-term goals for the firm.

“In the short term, our focus is on attracting high-quality people to build on the strength of our existing team and deepening our client relationships,” Annicchiarico said.

“Our new Sydney office supports both of these priorities – it gives us access to a broader talent pool and allows us to work more closely with clients already based there.

“Importantly, the capability we add strengthens our offering to clients across Australia, not just in Sydney.

“In the longer term, our ambition is to establish WRP Legal as a leading national firm, while retaining the close client relationships and personal service that underpin our practice.

“We want to build on our established strengths in Adelaide and our presence in Melbourne and Sydney, growing in ways that reflect our clients’ needs.”

With offices around Australia, Annicchiarico reinforced the importance of maintaining strong relationships with its clients across the country.

“With offices in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, we already work with clients throughout Australia,” Annicchiarico said.

“Our immediate priority is to strengthen those relationships, grow our team and make sure clients benefit from the expertise available across the firm, wherever they are based.

“Further offices are certainly part of our longer-term thinking, but expansion needs to have a clear purpose.

“We would consider a new location where it would help us better support clients and attract the right people, rather than pursuing a larger office footprint for the sake of it.”
