MINTER Ellison has hired Herbert Geer's Peter Kay to its finance practice in Melbourne.

Kay has previously worked three years in London at international firm White & Case and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

Kay's specialties include acquisition and leveraged finance, construction finance, mezzanine lending and general corporate lending.

Melbourne finance group head, David Eterovic, said the new recruit understands global financial markets, is known by a number of the firm's key bank clients and is well regarded for his "pragmatic and commercial approach."

Minter Ellison's finance practice won 14 industry awards over the past three years for its syndicated, debt market and project finance work.

Kay holds a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University.  He is admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and as a solicitor of the High Court of England and Wales.
