3 new appointments to the Federal Circuit Court

Three experienced judges have been appointed by the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

Senior registrar Colin Campbell, Jennifer Howe and Jonathan Davis QC have been appointed as judges of the FCC. 

Mr Campbell, has commenced in the Sydney registry after being appointed senior registrar in 2020. 

Commencing his career as a solicitor at Vaughan Hains and Main in 1987, Mr Campbell was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of NSW in 1986.

Mr Campbell has held positions as a registrar and senior registrar in the Federal Circuit Court and the Family Court of Australia. He has delivered many papers, seminars, and workshops on family law generally, and on practice and procedure in the family law courts.

“I am pleased to announce that Senior Registrar Colin Campbell, Ms Jennifer Howe and Mr Jonathan Davis QC have been appointed as judges of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia (FCC), commending 6 April 2021,” said senator the Honourable Michaelia Cash. 

Ms Howe has been appointed by the FCC and commenced in the Melbourne registry. She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2005 and commenced her legal career as a solicitor at Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper).

Specialising in family law and family violence, Ms Howe has extensive experience appearing on behalf of independent children’s lawyers and uses her experience in corporate and insolvency law to resolve complex property matters.

Mr Davis has been appointed by the FCC and commenced in the Melbourne registry. Throughout his career, Mr Davis has gained extensive experience in commercial law, as an advocate, at trial, and on appeal. Mr Davis has also practised in administrative law, industrial relations, equity, and trusts. 

Mr Davis began his career as a solicitor at Corrs Chambers Westgarth and since then has specialised in commercial practice, including insurance law and professional liability, corporations law, competition and consumer law, and contractual disputes. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1991.

“On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Senior Registrar Colin Campbell, Mr Jonathan Davis QC and Ms Jennifer Howe on their appointments and thank them for their willingness to serve the people of Australia as judges of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia,” said Senator Cash.
