Piper Alderman takes managing partner from rival firm

Piper Alderman takes managing partner from rival firm

Piper Alderman has hired the managing partner of a rival firm to its ranks.

PIPER Alderman has hired the managing partner of a rival firm to its ranks.

The firm has attracted former Australian Business Lawyers managing partner Tim Capelin to its workplace relations team.

He becomes a consultant in the Sydney office of Piper Alderman, joining former Australian Business Lawyers colleague Sharlene Wellard, who joined as partner in the employment relations team last year.

Capelin has expertise in all areas of workplace law, with a particular emphasis on strategic advice, enterprise bargaining, managing collective disputes and senior executive matters.

Piper Alderman Managing Partner Tony Phelps said of the hire: “We are delighted to have someone of Tim’s calibre join our team. His experience acting for a wide range of major local and international clients will compliment and add to Piper Alderman’s existing practice.

The firm last week announced that Sebastian Greene from Middletons had joined the firm as a corporate partner in its Melbourne office. See story here

Capelin said he had been pursued by many firms, "but chose Piper Alderman because it has leading practitioners such as Sharlene Wellard, David Ey and Professor Andrew Stewart.

"I was attracted to the firm’s client focused culture and its determination to make the workplace practice second to none.”
