A senior lawyer who started his own firm in 1983 and who has 40 years experience in commercial property law, has been hired by a major Sydney law firm.
David Heidtman has joined M+K Lawyers' Sydney office as a principal in the commercial group. He says he was attracted by the firm's ability to cater to the mid market.
"M+K's focus on the mid market is a really good fit for most of my clients, who want a good range of legal services which a firm like M+K is well placed to deliver", said the new recruit.
The new principal left the door swinging for his team, who together take the M+K commercial services group to 40 lawyers, including 16 principals nationally.
Heidtman has expertise in corporate, commercial and property matters, including company and business acquisitions, sales and restructures, transaction documents, property development, professional services, intellectual property and motor dealer businesses.
Heidtman and his team have been active with mergers and acquisitions, despite the quieter economic times, he said.
"Although the number is down on say three years ago, we have continued to be more active than expected. We anticipate the slower pace is likely to continue in 2012."
"We continue to be extremely busy because we are finding that during these times, many businesses and business people are turning their minds to putting their house in order.
"2012 continues to see people implementing strategies to create efficiencies and get affairs in order. We saw that happen last year and are already seeing evidence of it continuing this year, with increased activity in business succession and estate planning and an emphasis on streamlining employment and corporate arrangements and structures," he said.
