Litigation partner’s exit makes two for Thomsons

Thomsons has lost its second partner in a matter of weeks, with dispute resolution specialist Craig Powell joining HWL Ebsworth in Sydney this month.

Powell (pictured) specialises in disputes involving potential significant financial and reputational loss for clients in the media, health, stockbroking, food and beverage, energy and hospitality industries.

He has also managed Coronial Inquiries and appeals to the NSW Court of Appeal, Federal Court of Appeal, High Court and International Courts of Arbitration.

Powell joined Thomsons in 2008 with a team of four lawyers.

His recent move to HWL follows another high-level partner defection from Thomsons. Former property and projects partner Ron Eames joined Holding Redlich in Brisbane in January.

Thomsons had, however, picked up two heavyweight lawyers early last year: banking and finance partner Michael Barrett, known for being an extremely tough and aggressive litigator, and the former head of national leisure and entertainment at Clayton Utz, Tony Rein.

HWL Ebsworth has 160 partners and 357 other legal professionals across its Australian offices.
