TV giant appoints new GC

FremantleMedia has recruited the former legal head of BBC Worldwide as its new general counsel.

Robin Chalmers (pictured) replaces Sarah Tingay, who retires from FremantleMedia on 30 September after 27 years with the company.

Chalmers will provide legal and commercial advice across all FremantleMedia businesses globally. The role also oversees the protection of the FremantleMedia’s intellectual property (IP) rights.

Chalmers joins FremantleMedia from BBC Worldwide where he was Director of Business & Legal Affairs for all of its regional businesses outside of North America.

His former colleague, Fiona Lang, the Director of Business & Legal Affairs for BBC Worldwide in Australia and New Zealand, was recently promoted to the newly-created role of chief commercial officer.

BBC Worldwide has confirmed to Lawyers Weekly that Lang’s promotion was not related to Chalmers’ departure.

Before joining BBC Worldwide 10 years ago, Chalmers worked as a corporate IP lawyer and represented a range of media, digital and technology clients.
