Maurice Blackburn Cashman has appointed Andrew Watson as principal in major projects, Melbourne. He joined the firm from the ACTU in November 2004. The firm also appointed senior associates Lyn Honan (costing, Melbourne) and Danny Frigerio (WorkCover, Sunshine office), and associates Anna Neesham (major projects, Melbourne), Francesca Colubriale (Sydney), and Gino Andrieri (WorkCover, Dandenong).

DMAW Lawyers has appointed Michael Bett and Ross Callow to the risk management and dispute resolution section. Bett, formerly of Cusoff Cudmore Knox, has commenced as a senior associate and Callow was previously at the SA Crown Solicitors Office.

Clayton Utz will appoint its national pro bono director, David Hillard, to partner in the firm, effective from 1 January 2006. The firm said the appointment was a first for a major commercial law firm, and recognised the significance of the firm’s pro bono practice. After three years working for the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, Hillard became Clayton Utz’s national pro bono coordinator in 1997.

The NSW Crown Solicitor has recently appointed Kate Burns as a senior solicitor in the community law practice group. She has been an associate partner at a private law firm, and has held various positions with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and more recently, the Commission for Children & Young People.
