DMAW Lawyers has appointed Michael Bett and Ross Callow to the risk management and dispute resolution section. Bett, formerly of Cusoff Cudmore Knox, has commenced as a senior associate and Callow was previously at the SA Crown Solicitor’s Office.

Clayton Utz will appoint its national pro bono director, David Hillard, to partner in the firm, effective from 1 January 2006. The firm said the appointment was a first for a major commercial law firm, and recognised the significance of the firm’s pro bono practice. After three years working for the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, Hillard became Clayton Utz’s national pro bono coordinator in 1997.

The NSW Crown Solicitor has recently appointed Kate Burns as a senior solicitor in the community law practice group. She has been an associate partner at a private law firm, and has held various positions with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and more recently, the Commission for Children & Young People.
