Firm: Allens (The GEO Group Australia)

Deal: Allens has advised The GEO Group Australia on the expansion of Victoria’s Fulham Correctional Centre.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: Infrastructure

Key players: Partner David Donnelly led Allens’ team, with managing associate Paul Telford and associate Ben van Weel.

Deal significance: The Fulham Correctional Centre is located in Victoria’s Sale.

The expansion will see the addition of 102 new beds to the current contracted capacity of 947 beds, as well as upgrading of the centre’s existing facilities.

It follows advice given by Allens, according to a statement from the firm, as to the extension of the operating contract signed for the centre back in 2015, which represented a $1.45 billion nominal investment over the contract’s life by the Victorian government.

Allens advised on procurement, legal and commercial aspects of this expansion, with lead partner Mr Donnelly saying “we are proud to have advised The GEO Group Australia on this project, which presents a great example of creating value through enhancing existing assets.”

“Allens has supported the modernisation of the private prison system in Victoria through its work on the Ravenhall Prison PPP, Fulham Correctional Centre Extension, Port Phillip Prison Extension and the retendering of the pharmaceutical supply contracts across the Victorian prison network,” he continued.
