The Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (RCMPI) will hear more evidence by video on Thursday, May 7, 2020. The hearings are expected to last two days and will explore Victoria Police’s policy and procedure on managing human sources.

Specifically, the hearings will examine Victoria Police’s approach to managing any source with legal obligations of confidentiality or privilege and the use of any information obtained from sources in the criminal justice system, such as Ms Gobbo.

Victoria Police deputy commissioner Wendy Steendam will give evidence first. Former chief constable, Sir Jonathan Murphy, and Merseyside Police and professor of advanced policing studies at Liverpool John Moores University will give evidence on 13 May 2020.

In November 2019, the commission produced a consultation paper on the current use of human source information in the criminal justice system from human sources. Key stakeholders were invited to respond, such as bar associations and policing bodies.
