The Queensland Law Society (QLS) has proudly welcomed the appointment of Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) senior consultant Peter Schmidt to its council.

QLS president Luke Murphy said that as an organisation focused on its members and committed to supporting the state’s lawyers, the council highly values the experiences that Mr Schmidt will bring to his new role as it aligns with its corporate values.

“His commitment to the profession through his long career will enable him to make the significant contribution needed to setting QLS’ strategic direction for 2021 to 2025, in the way QLS engages with members and our members’ experience of the law,” he said.

Mr Schmidt has previously led the NRF Brisbane office for five years and has extensive experience in commercial disputes and the practice of insolvency and restructuring. In addition, he has particular expertise in corporate turnaround and recovery and offering advice for secured lenders on debt management and secured loan recovery.

He is also on the board of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association and QLS’ and Law Council of Australia’s insolvency and reconstruction Queensland sub-committee.

“With his depth of knowledge and experience, we are looking forward to Peter taking his seat on council and working with him to advocate for good law and the public good in Queensland,” Mr Murphy said.
