Gilchrist Connell (which has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney) has promoted five lawyers – three in Sydney and two in Adelaide – to principal.

These promotions – including three females – mean that women now make up more than 30 per cent of principals at the firm, and follow on from its “rapid growth” in recent months, with a net increase of over 30 per cent in headcount since December of last year.

Lawyers Weekly wrote about the firm’s “controlled explosion” in headcount last month.

Speaking about the five new principals, Gilchrist Connell managing partner Richard Wood said: “These new promotions are an exciting development for our teams, boosting leadership in key and specialist practice areas including medical malpractice, cyber and IT, insolvency and restructuring, construction and EPL.”

The firm’s newest Sydney-based principals are Daniela Faggionato (head of the health and medical malpractice team in NSW), Nitesh Patel (head of the firm’s cyber team) and Hannah Griffiths (head of the firm’s restructuring and insolvency team and its recovery team).

In Adelaide, the firm promoted Samantha Hocking (who oversees the construction team in South Australia) and Jamie Ling (EPL and workplace law).

“As well as elevating these outstanding senior lawyers, we are preparing our capacity and capability to meet the needs of ongoing demand and growth activity through to early FY22 and beyond,” Mr Wood added.

The firm noted, in a statement, that it is looking forward to announcing further promotions and recruits in the coming weeks and months.
