Deal: Sandvik has acquired Brisbane-based software business Deswik Group, with assistance from Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) and DLA Piper.

Key players: The NRF Australian team was led by M&A partner Marshall Bromwich with support from partners Georgina Hey, Ka-Chi Cheung, Nick McHugh, Martin Osborne and Will Webster, and special counsel Mindaugas Skavronskas.

They were assisted by senior associates Linda Lau, Dietrich Marquardt and Shannon Walker; associates Ming Kalanon, Kasey Solar, Morgan Woodland, Michelle Martin and Amelia Martin; lawyers Michael Lacey and Lachlan Crosbie; graduate Shaun Buckton; and summer clerk Jasper Gotterson.

DLA was led by corporate partner Lyndon Masters, who had support from senior associates Elizabeth Campbell and Nicole Breschkin and solicitor Julie Humphreys.

Deal significance: Sandvik announced that it had signed an agreement to acquire Deswik, a major provider of mine planning software. It will be part of a new division, digital mining technologies, within the Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.

The acquisition will provide Sandvik with a supplier of integrated software platforms that support digitisation throughout the mine planning stages.

Commenting on the deal, Mr Bromwich said: “Digital transformation is present in all industries, and the pace at which companies are modernising has really accelerated in recent years. We are pleased to have been able to bring a cross-border team to assist Sandvik to acquire Deswik, with its complementary product suite, quality customer base and history of strong growth.”
