Merredin solar farm sees project financing

Global law firm DLA Piper has advised Solar United Network on the project financing of the Merredin solar farm located in Western Australia.

Key players: The DLA Piper team was led by partner Owen Alcorn and supported by partners Chris Mitchell, Alex Regan and Eagul Faigen, senior associates Madison Alexeeff and Marnie Calli, solicitors Lisa Huynh, Harry Lacoste and Joanne Lim, and paralegal Jason Duryea.

Deal significance: The 132-megawatt direct-current (MWDC) operating solar farm is located approximately 260 kilometres east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt region.

Commenting on the deal, DLA Piper lead partner Owen Alcorn said: “We were pleased to act on the project financing for such a significant renewable energy asset for the state [of] Western Australia and Australia more generally.

“The project financing shows the role Western Australia can play in the transition to renewable energy generation and underscores the continuing appetite for lenders to finance renewables projects within Western Australia.

“This transaction is also a great example of the capabilities of the firm in advising on project finance transactions in the energy transition and renewable energy sectors.”
