Adel Van der Walt (pictured) has joined the Perth office of HopgoodGanim Lawyers as a partner in its resources and energy practice.

She joins from Jackson McDonald, where she spent four years as a partner. Prior to this, she was a partner at Clayton Utz for close to a decade and ran her own boutique practice and consultancy for nearly two years.

She brings, HopgoodGanim said in a statement, nearly two decades of experience advising clients in the oil and gas sector in Australia and Africa, having advised across commercial transactions, project development and structuring, services contracts and energy regulatory matters across her career.

The news follows the firm’s promotion of 25 lawyers, including four to partner, in late June.

It also follows the firm’s naming of a new head of cyber security in October, a patents director in June, and a new chief operating officer and chief risk officer in March.

Speaking about the hire, HopgoodGanim resources and energy practice head Dr Jonathan Fulcher said that the firm “enjoys a well-earned reputation as a market leader in the resources and energy sector, and we are pleased to welcome Adel to support the continued growth of this cornerstone practice”.

Fellow firm partner Robyn Ferguson added: “The Perth office is thrilled to welcome Adel onboard.

“We are committed to continued growth in Perth, and Adel’s wealth of experience in oil and gas and mining complements our existing strengths servicing clients across major projects, renewables, hard rock mining and critical minerals.”
