After spending more than a decade as a partner at Clayton Utz, Alistair Fleming (pictured) has joined Johnson Winter Slattery as a partner in the firm’s Perth-based restructuring and insolvency team.

Fleming has extensive expertise in corporate restructuring, insolvency, and commercial litigation and brings more than 20 years of legal experience to the firm.

I was drawn to JWS’ strong reputation as a go-to firm for restructuring and insolvency work, the strength and calibre of its corporate offering particularly in Perth, and the opportunity to commence and lead the Perth R&I practice as part of a strong national R&I team led by Joseph Scarcella,” Fleming said.

“I was also impressed with the team’s experience working on some of Australia’s largest and highest-profile insolvencies in the area. I am looking forward to working with Joseph and the R&I team.”

JWS noted in a statement that he “advises on all aspects – both contentious and non-contentious – of informal and formal insolvency and restructuring processes, and on transactions involving corporate disputes or financial distress”.

Jeremy Davis, managing partner of JWS, expressed his enthusiasm for Fleming’s appointment, describing him as “one of the leading restructuring and insolvency specialists in the Perth market”.

His appointment adds significant strength to our national team, including Joseph Scarcella, Peter Smith, Ben Renfrey and Emily Barrett,” Davis said.

The news follows the firm taking an energy and resource partner from global rival DLA Piper in March, its addition of safety partner Alena Titterton from Clyde & Co in February, its appointment of two senior associates from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, who are joining as a partner and special counsel in November and the hiring of a banking and finance partner from Baker McKenzie in October.
