Sparke Helmore’s Darwin ranks have swelled with the team from Roussos Legal Advisory joining its statutory lines insurance operations, effective 1 July.

George Roussos (pictured), Sparke Helmore said, is a nationally accredited mediator with extensive experience in advising clients on business and commercial disputes, work health and safety, employment, insurance, and workers’ compensation, and work with clients includes both initiating and defending claims, as well as negotiating and mediating disputes.

He was the president of the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce and chair of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Advisory Council.

Roussos, who was Roussos Legal Advisory’s managing partner, has joined with a team of three, including special counsel Melanie Blackman.

He will serve as Sparke Helmore’s local managing partner in Darwin.

The news follows Sparke Helmore’s merger with Queensland boutique Woods Price Lawyers in April.

It also follows the BigLaw firm’s addition of a partner from Baker McKenzie in mid-June and its hiring of a partner from Mills Oakley earlier that month.

Sparke Helmore national statutory lines insurance practice group leader James Johnson said: “We are excited to welcome George and his team onboard.

“George is a highly respected and credentialed practitioner. His expertise will enable us to expand the services we provide to our clients, as well as to support George’s loyal client base and the continued growth of our Darwin and national practice. We are also pleased that George’s talented team has decided to join us.”

Roussos said: “My team and I are pleased to join Sparke Helmore, enhancing the depth of the firm’s highly regarded statutory lines insurance team.

“I also look forward to collaborating with other specialised areas at Sparke Helmore to better serve our Northern Territory clients.”
