Commercial law firm Cowell Clarke has appointed a new director to its corporate and commercial team, where he will head up the firm’s banking and finance capabilities.
Mayank Gupta has brought over 20 years of international experience across corporate finance, distressed lending, restructuring, leveraged finance, asset finance, real estate finance, and project finance to Cowell Clarke’s corporate and commercial team.
The new director has advised large financial institutions, alternative capital providers and corporates on complex matters across the Asia-Pacific region – including China and India – and the United Kingdom, the United States, the Middle East, Africa, and eastern Europe.
CEO Rob Comazzetto said the appointment reflects the firm’s focus on strengthening its finance offering in line with client demand.
“Our growth is driven by what our clients need and the people we bring to deliver it,” Comazzetto said.
“Mayank adds real depth to our finance capability and strengthens our ability to support clients on increasingly complex transactions, while continue to build a high-quality team nationally.”
Gupta’s work includes, at the time of the transaction, the largest wind farm financing in Ukraine, the largest bond insurance in Bangladesh, and the largest non-performing loan acquisition in eastern Europe.
He has also held in-house roles, including general counsel at one of Australia’s largest equipment financiers.
Commenting on his appointment, Gupta said he was excited to join Cowell Clarke “at a pivotal stage of its growth”.
“The firm’s national growth ambitions, commitment to people and innovation provide a strong platform to build on their practice and support clients navigating increasingly complex financing environments,” Gupta said.
Last year, Cowell Clarke bolstered its Sydney office with the addition of several new directors, including last September’s appointment of Amanda Brady to the dispute resolution and construction practice.
