Global law firm Jones Day has expanded its litigation bench with the appointment of three partners from BigLaw rival Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Partners Matthew Critchley, Alicia Salvo, and Brendon Clarke (pictured) have all left Corrs to join Jones Day, in the latter’s global disputes practice. The trio was joined by one associate, will be based in the firm’s Melbourne office, and commenced in their new roles yesterday (Tuesday, 10 March).
The news follows the firm’s naming of three new office managing partners in Australia last month, the addition of two corporate partners who were most recently at Hogan Lovells in January, the promotion of a tax lawyer to the partnership in the same month, and the hiring of a litigation partner from HSF Kramer last October.
Jones Day has over 100 lawyers across its four Australian offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. The firm has 2,500 lawyers in 40 offices across five continents.
Jones Day’s Australian partner-in-charge, Chris Lovrien, said: “The arrival of these three talented partners further strengthens our ability to serve our clients with respect to their domestic and cross-border business disputes in Australia.
“I am delighted to work alongside Matt, Alicia, and Brendon, and it is my privilege to welcome them to Jones Day.”
The firm’s global disputes lead, Sion Richards, said: “Matt, Alicia, and Brendon are highly experienced and skilled disputes lawyers, and I am excited that they are joining our growing team of talented lawyers in Australia.
“Their particular focus in banking, insolvency, regulatory investigations, and technology is an excellent complement to our global strengths as a practice group, and I am delighted to welcome them to our team.”
The firm’s Melbourne partner-in-charge, Niv Tadmore, said: “Matt, Alicia, and Brendon have established track records of delivering exceptional results for clients in some of the most high-stakes commercial disputes involving companies in Australia.
“They are well-respected in the Melbourne legal and business community. The arrival of this top-notch litigation team is part of our broader growth strategy in Melbourne.”
Critchley said: “My colleagues and I have always admired Jones Day’s reputation for excellence in handling complex international business disputes with a collaborative approach that enables the firm to mobilise the right team for each client matter, across regions and legal disciplines.
“Alicia, Brendon, and I are eager to work with our new colleagues around the world and right here in Melbourne on our clients’ most consequential global disputes.”
