National firm Carter Newell has bolstered its corporate and commercial team with the appointment of a partner bringing more than 25 years of experience across top-tier and in-house legal roles.
Stefan Luke (pictured) has joined Carter Newell as a partner in its growing corporate and commercial team, based in the firm’s Brisbane office.
Bringing more than 25 years of experience across top-tier and in-house roles, the national firm expressed how Luke’s appointment will bolster its capabilities in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity, and corporate governance.
He joins the partnership following a period as a consultant with the firm, where he advised clients on corporate transactions across Australia and internationally, across a broad range of matters.
Luke has a strong focus on corporate transactions, advising on public and private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity deals, equity capital market raisings, cross-border transactions, and commercial contracting.
His experience spans a diverse range of industries, including data centres, energy and resources, major infrastructure, industrials, food and agribusiness, and entertainment.
Paul Hopkins, chair of partners at Carter Newell, welcomed Luke’s appointment, noting he brings a rare combination of top-tier legal expertise, in-house leadership experience, and strong commercial judgement across high-stakes corporate transactions.
“Stefan has cultivated leading expertise and strong commercial judgement as a partner in top-tier firms, in his significant in-house experience, and within our team at Carter Newell,” Hopkins stated.
“Stefan has built an exceptional track record advising on high-stakes corporate transactions at top-tier firms, in boardrooms as a General Counsel, and more recently with our clients at Carter Newell.
“He brings a rare combination of technical depth, commercial judgement, and genuine in-house perspective.
“On behalf of the broader partnership, I am proud to welcome Stefan as a partner and look forward to his calibre and leadership driving further success for our clients.”
Speaking about his new role, Luke shared how he is focused on partnering closely with clients to understand their commercial objectives, risks, and industry dynamics, delivering practical, targeted advice directly aligned with outcomes.
“My focus is on being a genuine partner to clients, understanding their commercial objectives, the risks they face, and the industry dynamics shaping their decisions,” Luke noted.
“That means providing advice that is practical, targeted and directly connected to outcomes.”
