Dioni Perera, who departs EY after five and a half years, has been appointed as a partner and will be joined by consultant Peter van den Broek, lawyers Alper Gokoglu, Alistair Thompson, and William Li, and graduate Robyn Flynn.

They will form G+T’s new tax controversy and tax dispute resolution practice.

Perera brings 20 years of high-stakes tax disputes and litigation experience, having worked with ASX-listed companies, global multinationals and major private groups in a range of industries seeing increased regulatory pressure and enforcement activity.

The firm highlighted her capability to support clients managing risk, controversy and regulatory engagement in a dynamic tax environment, with co-founder and chairman Danny Gilbert praising her “specialised and strategic experience”.

Speaking about her appointment, Perera said: “I’m excited to join Gilbert + Tobin’s disputes and investigations team and to build on its reputation for providing sharp, strategic advice on the most complex tax controversy matters.”

The team has seen recent growth nationally, with the hiring of Holly Sara and Daniel Moloney in Sydney and Melbourne, respectively.
