15 November 2002: Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance sent a scathing memo to their partners in response to their last place ranking in The American Lawyer's 2002 Associate Survey which was leaked to the New York Law Journal. One of Clifford Chance's associates had described the firm's 2,420 billable hours requirement as "profoundly unrealistic...dehumanising and verging on an abdication of our professional responsibilities..."
