Movers & Shakers: David Williamson, chief legal counsel at BHP Billiton
Blake Dawson partner David Williamson took up the role of chief legal counsel at BHP Billiton this year, cementing the lawyer's place as one of the industry's leading M&A lawyers and leaving his 28-year history with Blake Dawson behind.

Williamson joined Blake Dawson as a graduate in 1982 and shot to partnership in just seven years. He worked in the firm's Melbourne, Sydney and London offices holding a number of leadership positions in each.

The appointment was so significant that Blake Dawson actually published its own press release regarding the loss, with managing partner John Carrington congratulating Williamson on the achievement but noting the "powerful legacy" he left behind.
