Movers & Shakers: Caleb Franklin, NSW magistrate
Caleb Franklin, a senior solicitor from the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS), was appointed as a magistrate of the Local Court of New South Wales.

Franklin was the principal solicitor for the largest zone of the ALS in NSW and the ACT, supervising its operations in Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong, Nowra and Moruya.

During his 10 years at ALS, Franklin also coordinated a 24-hour legal advice and welfare hotline for Indigenous people taken into custody.

"Mr. Franklin's ability to manage a large and varied workload will place him in good stead to serve on the bench of one of the nation's busiest courts," said NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos.

Franklin was sworn is as magistrate on 11 October.
