Clarendon Lawyers has advised Stateless Systems in the sale of its discount coupon website, RetailMeNot.com, to Austin-based WhaleShark Media.

Founded by internet entrepreneurs Guy King and Bevan Clark in 2006, RetailMeNot.com has grown to become one of the most visited discount coupon websites in the world, having around 95 million unique visitors in 2010.

WhaleShark Media has an existing portfolio of coupon and discount sites and raised $90 million to help finance the deal.

The Clarendon team was led by director Craig Finlayson and senior associate John Coghlan who assisted the Melbourne-based company on the Australian aspects of the sale and worked closely with a team of lawyers from the Portland and Palo Alto offices of US firm Perkins Coie.

DLA Piper in Austin, Texas, acted for WhaleShark Media.
