Both Scott McDonald and Julian McGrath will take to the firm’s Sydney office, and will be based in the corporate and commercial group and insurance group, respectively.
Mr McDonald brings to the firm more than 30 years’ experience in commercial litigation, having advised on complex commercial disputes, competition law, alternative dispute resolution, bankruptcy, insolvency and white collar crime.
According to a statement from Sparke Helmore, he also has significant experience in the emerging fields of international commercial arbitration, cross-border disputes, and anti-bribery and corruption.
Meanwhile, Mr McGrath brings over two decades’ worth of insurance law experience to his new role at Sparke Helmore.
Throughout his career, Mr McGrath has advised on numerous first party property claims, professional indemnity claims, directors’ and officers’ claims, and complex liability and products liability claims for insurers.
The firm’s statement noted that he also provides advice on policy coverage, defending contested declinatures, and on proceedings involving non-disclosure and under the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth).
Sparke Helmore national managing partner Phillip Salem welcomed both Mr McDonald and Mr McGrath to the partnership.
“Our partnership is growing from strength to strength and it’s gratifying to see the firm attract lawyers of Scott and Julian’s calibre,” Mr Salem said.
“Sparke Helmore now has 78 partners delivering exceptional service to all our clients across Australia.”
