Corrs Chambers Westgarth has hired a competition and consumer law expert as a partner and head of its competition and regulatory practice.

Ayman Guirguis, a former Blake Dawson partner, will commence in Corrs’ Sydney office in April.

Guirguis has worked at the ACCC as a director of the mergers branch and as the second in charge of their Sydney office.

He was recently invited to speak as a non-government representative at the International Competition Network’s 2011 Cartel Workshop in Bruges, Belgium. In February 2012, he was a key speaker at the International Bar Association and American Bar Association’s biannual Cartel Workshop.

Guirguis has experience in merger clearance, cartel work, competitor advice and investigations, supply chain issues, engaging with the ACCC and acting in litigation matters involving competition issues. He has worked across a broad range of industries including petroleum, IT, pharmaceutical, building, construction, engineering, packaging, property and retail businesses.

He has advised ExxonMobil, Visy Industries, Hewlett Packard, Leighton Contractors and Stockland, among many other international organisations.
