The ACT Bar Association's website was hacked on Thursday and transformed into a porn site.

A spokesperson for the association said the breach was identified immediately and the site was disabled.

The site is still offline but the association is hopeful that it will be up and running by the end of the week.

The spokesperson said the association did not know why its website security had been breached but the matter had been referred to the Australian Federal Police for investigation.

A journalist at The Australian, James Jeffrey, reported that he went onto the association's home page to be greeted by words such as "busty", "hot babes" and "amateur" and decided to decline the offer of a free tour of the website.
