BRISBANE BASED not-for-profit organisation, the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House (QPILCH), was one of five local groups to received a 2006 NAB Volunteer Award in a ceremony last week.

Held at the Queensland Rugby Club, a division of QPILCH, the Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic was presented with the award for community service and development.

The Clinic gives free legal advice and assistance to those experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness, through various emergency accommodation centres and welfare agencies across Brisbane.

The prize of $7,000 will go towards the costs of running the HPLC.

The 2006 NAB Volunteer Awards were judged by Volunteering Australia, the national peak body for the volunteer sector, along with community leaders in each category.
