A legal educator and a senior lawyer have both told Lawyers Weekly they are “happy” with the settlement terms of a discrimination claim.

Lawyers Weekly exclusively revealed in March that legal mentor and former law firm partner Garry Mann (pictured) had launched legal action against Melbourne’s Leo Cussen Institute for alleged breaches of the Disability Discrimination Act.

The matter settled at mediation last Friday (22 August).

Leo Cussen’s executive director, Elizabeth Loftus, confirmed to Lawyers Weekly that the Federal Circuit Court proceedings had been resolved.

“Leo Cussen is happy with the settlement,” she said in a statement.

Loftus did not respond to questions posed by Lawyers Weekly regarding the terms of the settlement.

Mann also declined to comment on the settlement terms, but told Lawyers Weekly that he was “very happy with the settlement”.

Leo Cussen was represented by Maddocks partner Ross Jackson. Chris Molnar, a partner at Melbourne firm McKean Park, acted for Mann.

Mann is still employed by Leo Cussen as a legal practitioner/mentor.
