Hive Legal welcomes new principal and director
A commercial lawyer and digital health expert with a proven track record at Hive Legal has been promoted into the roles of director and principal.

Newest director Ella Cannon has worked with the firm since 2016, during which time she has built a “thriving health practice” that has assisted a number of national digital health companies in developing their telehealth capabilities during the pandemic.

Now based in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley, Ms Cannon has continued to build the practice by providing specialised corporate and commercial legal advice. Although based regionally, Ms Cannon has maintained a connection to metropolitan centres.
On the move, Ms Cannon said: “The pandemic forced all of us to take stock, and for our family, a tree change felt right. We get the best of both worlds: raising our young family in, and being part of, such an incredible regional community, while still working with my largely metropolitan-based clients and delivering specialised legal services.
“I’ve been really grateful to work for a firm that offers real career progression while working remotely, and having now joined the principal group, I’m looking forward to contributing to build a practice that crosses the metropolitan and regional divide.”
Also commenting on Ms Cannon’s new role, executive director Melissa Lyon said Hive has always given its team the choice of where and when to work.
“It’s about providing our team with a great experience and that means we can attract the best lawyers and team no matter where they live. The success of our model is not just a matter of having technology to enable remote working. You need to invest time and effort into building a culture of support, respect and connectedness,” she said.
