Patrick George, who was a senior partner at Kennedys for 17 years and, before that, a partner at MinterEllison for 18 years, has joined Company (Giles).

Ms Giles founded the firm in 2020 after leaving Kennedys and has, the firm said in a statement, “cemented itself as the ‘go-to’ firm for those facing reputational threats and took a lead role in some of Australia’s highest stakes matters”, including former Commonwealth attorney-general Christian Porter, Christine Holgate, Brittany Higgins, former MP Andrew Laming, and former Chelmsford Private Hospital owner Dr John Gill in his defamation battle against publishing giant HarperCollins.

Mr George joins as a principal and is, Company (Giles) noted, “a trusted adviser to some of Australia’s most high-profile individuals, including two former prime ministers, a range of global celebrities and business leaders”.

Speaking about the appointment, Ms Giles said: “It is a privilege to be reunited with my long-term mentor and collaborator.

“Patrick George is one of the best legal minds in this country. He is a leader of the profession — globally renowned for his technical excellence and strategic judgement.

“I am constantly inspired by his passion for the law and its evolution. I am delighted to commence our 20th year of practice together.”

Mr George added: “I very much look forward to working with Rebekah again.

“We each have our individual strengths as lawyers, and together we are a powerful and effective team. Rebekah has extraordinary energy and insight.

“She is tenacious for her clients and gives them the highest confidence representing them and has done so in some of the most difficult cases. Rebekah has established an excellent reputation as a lawyer and a role model.”

Mr George commenced with the firm on Friday, 31 March.
