Boutique law firm Margalit Injury Lawyers has appointed a principal solicitor and a lawyer to join the practice based in Melbourne.
Thomas McCredie and Jessica Rodrigues have joined Margalit Injury Lawyers in the roles of principal solicitor and lawyer, respectively.
They both made the move across from Melbourne-based injury and family law firm Mazzeo Lawyers.
McCredie spent seven years as a partner, with a background spanning personal injury, institutional abuse, commercial litigation, employment law, and corporate transactions, while Rodrigues spent two years at the firm as a lawyer.
Bringing experience across litigation involving governmental entities and institutions, McCredie has regularly appeared in Victorian tribunals and courts, as well as working with international law firms in London.
Stepping into the personal injury practice, Rodrigues brings expertise encompassing WorkCover matters, TAC disputes, public liability cases, and claims involving institutional abuse.
With the additions of McCredie and Rodrigues, Margalit Injury Lawyers’ team amounts to 50 employees, working across its personal injury and class actions practices.
Michel Margalit, managing principal of Margalit Injury Lawyers, was recently appointed as the new Australian Lawyers Alliance president and highlighted her commitment to protecting injured people and advocating for their rights.
Speaking on the appointments of McCredie and Rodrigues, Margalit recognised that the additions aligned with the ongoing vision for the firm’s development.
“The success of this firm has always come down to its people,” Margalit said.
“You can have ambitious plans, great systems and interesting cases, but ultimately, it is the people around the table who determine the kind of firm you become and the way in which we care for our clients.
“Tom is an experienced and very considered litigator. He has led teams, managed significant matters and brings the kind of judgement and leadership that will be incredibly valuable as our class actions practice continues to grow.
“Jess is at an early stage of her career, but what stood out immediately was the breadth of experience she already brings and the way she approaches clients.
“She is thoughtful, capable and empathetically supports clients with care through a difficult and uncertain time in their life.”
The firm has grown to 50 workers since its 2018 launch; however, Margalit noted that expansion was never their main goal.
“I am enormously proud of what we have built, but I don’t want us to become bigger simply for the sake of being bigger,” Margalit said.
“We want to keep building a firm that does excellent work, takes on matters that matter and gives clients access to lawyers who know who they are – maintaining that as we grow is incredibly important to me.”
Throughout recent periods, this expansion has enabled the firm to pursue numerous class actions, including claims related to the AFL and Monash IVF, as well as cases addressing fundamental issues of institutional responsibility and legal accessibility.
The firm has offices in Melbourne CBD, Bentleigh, and Sunbury.
