Kristen Kipps has been appointed as a partner in the Brisbane office of HopgoodGanim Lawyers, joining the firm’s construction group.
Kipps commenced with the firm on 2 November, bringing more than 16 years of experience across construction and major projects.
She came across from Thomsons, where she was a special counsel, and prior to this she served as a principal at CDI Lawyers.
Speaking about the appointment, HopgoodGanim managing partner Luke Mountford said: “We are delighted to welcome Kristen to the HopgoodGanim team. She brings considerable experience across construction and major projects and will be an excellent addition to the firm. Her appointment adds further depth to our construction practice in Brisbane and builds on the expertise we already have in Perth.”
Kipps advises on both front-end and contentious construction matters, with experience spanning procurement, contract negotiation, project delivery, risk allocation, claims, variations, delay, defects and dispute resolution.
She acts for developers, principals and contractors across energy and renewables, residential and social infrastructure developments, and other major construction and infrastructure projects. In doing so, she draws on experience across legal practice, project management and in-house legal work.
That breadth of her experience, Mountford said, was a significant part of the appeal: “Kristen brings a valuable perspective on the commercial, operational and governance considerations that sit alongside the legal issues on major projects. She understands the pressures facing project teams and will bring that perspective to our clients, particularly across our real estate and development; energy, renewables and mining; and government sectors.”
Kipps will work alongside Perth-based construction partner Andrew Vinciullo, who said: “Kristen’s experience on both the contracting and disputes sides of construction complements our existing practice well, and I’m looking forward to having her as part of the team.”
The news follows the firm’s recent appointment of Michael Fredericks in its IP, technology, and cyber security team as a consultant. Mountford said the two hires should be read together.
“Kristen and Michael’s appointments reflect our continued investment in specialist expertise as our clients face increasingly complex challenges and require more sophisticated advice,” he said.
