Prior to joining the firm, Grabovic (pictured) worked for Clarke Lawyers, a specialist wills & estate planning firm.

Grabovic said: “There is a general misconception in the community that all blood relatives, including grandchildren, automatically have a right to contest a will. This misconception was categorically dispelled in a recent Supreme Court case where it was confirmed that grandparents do not have a moral duty to make provision for their grandchildren simply because a family relationship exists.”

A clear and well-constructed will reduces ambiguity and uncertainty in what happens with an estate, lowers the risk of unexpected consequences in how your assets are distributed and makes it likely that your known wishes are properly carried out to transfer the family wealth to the next generation, she added.

Managing partner of the firm, David Lawson, said the wills and estate division is an important part of Rigby Cooke’s practice as the advice given can impact families for generations.

“Peace of mind is invariably the key motive for individuals who have business, family and investment assets when it comes to estate and succession planning,” he said.
