FORMER Minter Ellison partner, Sonya Harris, has been appointed to the role of Mirvac general counsel and company secretary.

Her appointment comes after the resignation of Michael Smith from his position of group company secretary, a role he has held for just under four years.

Prior to her Mirvac appointment, Harris was at Brookfield Multiplex where she has been deputy general counsel since 2005.

During her time at Brookfield Multiplex, the company underwent major changes, including the purchase of Multiplex by Brookfield Asset Management, which led to the Multiplex Group de-listing from the from the ASX in December 2007 and in January 2008 becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management which is listed on the New York and Toronto stock exchange.

Like Brookfield Multiplex, Mirvac is an  integrated real estate group, with activities across the investment and development spectrum.
