Stephen Roith was nominated last week for the position, joining finance chief Mark Stewart and capital markets chief David Bickerton is the hotly contested election for the top dog position.

Formerly holding the title was Jeremy Sandelson, who was voted in as a firm's new global litigation chief earlier this month.

The vote will kick of in two week in London and the Middle East, after the nomination period closes. The election results are expected to be confirmed by mid-November.

Clifford Chance's global partnership is preparing to decide on the firm's global managing partner post, with elections expected to take place at the beginning of 2010.
