HWL Ebsworth has hired Mark Bartley, formerly at DLA Piper, as a partner in its Melbourne planning, environment and government group.

Prior to joining HWL Ebsworth, Bartley was a partner at DLA Piper, where he led the firm's National Water Group and was the Melbourne office leader for 2 years.

Bartley is a specialist in environmental, planning and local government law and his background includes acting for Commonwealth and state government departments, statutory authorities, local councils and private sector developers.

Bartley is involved in all aspects of property development, and regularly appears before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Planning Panels and Advisory Committees. His experience extends from infrastructure projects to commercial, industrial and residential developments.

"[Bartley] has a reputation for being technically outstanding, while attracting exceptional client feedback and loyalty" said Juan Martinez, managing partner of HWL Ebsworth.

"We believe that there are increasing opportunities in the planning and environment area and [his] expertise will help us further build on these opportunities".
